To
achieve an effective and efficient use of all available resources,
the partnering entities have selected the attached organization
structure. This organizational structure
can be modified as deemed necessary for accomplishing the
overall mission of the initiative.
Committee
Responsibilities
Executive
Committee: Chaired by Samuel Wilson, M.D.
As
a regular standing committee of Inland Wellness Information
Network (IWIN), the AAHI Executive Committee carries out the
mission of AAHI with the delegated power and authority of
the Board of Directors of IWIN. The AAHI Executive Committee
shall be made of nine voting members; five or more of these
members shall be African Americans. The constitution of the
Executive Committee shall be as follows:

The AAHI
Executive Committee shall be responsible for the following:
Policy
Development
Approving expenditures and overseeing budgets
Formulating goals, objectives and strategies
Hiring, and review of AAHI related personnel
Program review and implementation
Advisory
Council
The Advisory Council is comprised of all AAHI committee members
and representatives of all partnering organizations. Responsibilities:
Serves as a forum for communication among the partnering organizations.
Reviews input from member organizations, AAHI committees,
and/or the Executive Committee. Updates AAHI members on health
related changes in the African American community. Puts forward
proposals and recommendations for consideration by the Executive
Committee.
Development
Committee:
Responsibilities: Investigate fundraising and development
opportunities for AAHI. Also responsible for planning, organizing
and implementing coordinated campaigns and fundraising events.
Research
Committee:
Responsibilities: Look at existing literature dealing
with factors influencing the success of intervention strategies
in the delivery of health services to African Americans. This
involves completing an extensive literature search, identifying
and summarizing successful intervention strategies for dealing
with African American health issues. Summarizing this information
to be used for the purpose of developing a comprehensive intervention,
delivery and communication strategy for alleviating each of
the targeted risk factors. Part of the research includes developing
a database of all current providers of health care services
available to our target market in San Bernardino County. The
directory will include professional and paraprofessional African
Americans.
Health
Education & Material Development Committee:
Responsibilities: Inventory, acquire and assess
known and effective communication resources that can be adopted
or used in the development of health education material that
would assist in accomplishing the goals of AAHI. Will work
closely with the risk factor program committees to develop
risk-factor-specific health education material and programs.
Public
Relations & Publicity:
Responsibilities: Maintain a health relationship with
area media, and keep them and the public informed of all progress
and needs of the initiative. Also responsible for preparing
press releases and other public information material that
explains the mission and goals of the initiative and ensures
the proper recognition of AAHI's accomplishments.
Assessment/Evaluation
Committee:
Responsibilities: Develop protocols and a process for
capturing information that will be used in evaluating the
overall performance of the initiative.
Risk
Factor Coordinators & Program Committees:
(Perinatal Health Committee,. Hypertension Committee,
HIV/AIDS Committee, Organ Donation Committee, Gender
Specific Cancer Committee, and Sickle Cell Committee)
Responsibilities
of the Risk Factor Program Committees:
Assess the nature and extent of the problem/need relative
to that particular risk factor, i.e. identify what is currently
being done and assess what is being done in regard to these
needs.
- Inventory
the stakeholders- i.e. all agencies, organizations, individuals
that should be rallied to better address the needs.
- Evaluate
existing and known intervention programs to identify best
options. Use information generated by the Research Committee.
- Set
goals for the risk factor area.
- Establish
preliminary budgets
- Establish
measurable objectives with relevant time lines
- Design
relevant intervention strategies
- Develop
specific plans and programs
- Refine
the budgets
- Coordinate
the implementation of the plan and programs
- Assist
in the assessment and evaluation of risk factor specific
strategies
- Reformulate
mission, goals, objectives and strategies in light of assessment
results
